Reaping the Fruits of Goodness, Discipline and Wisdom

WEDNESDAY: Third Week in Ordinary Time

2Sam.7:4-17/Ps.131:1-5.11-14/MK.4:21-25

Reaping the Fruits of Goodness,

Discipline and Wisdom

The righteous shall live secure as a tree with deep roots (Prov.12:3). From childhood to old age, the Psalmist opined, he never saw the children of the righteous begging for bread (Ps.37:25). But the roots of the wicked on the contrary are uprooted (Hab.4:2). Righteousness is a display of humility and obedience to God. To grow where you are planted can sometimes be very humbling. Everyone has a vision in life, but it may not necessarily be the vision God has in mind for a particular individual. How can we tell the difference?

God speaks to us in various ways. Through the scriptures, the prophets, apostles, the Church and other times through a humble witness. God anointed David to be his warrior king. He did not choose David to be an architect or a builder of his temple. Even though David had good intentions about building a house for God, he had already played his part. God was prepared to reward his righteous obedience and dedication. Like David, we may never accomplish any grand projects during our lifetime. But we if we possess the spirit of goodness, discipline and wisdom to guide us through our respective missions on earth, God will reward us a hundredfold for doing just what he appointed us to do.

Like David, we may never accomplish any grand projects during our lifetime. But if we possess the spirit of goodness, discipline and wisdom to guide us through our respective missions on earth, God will reward us a hundredfold for doing just what he appointed us to do. Let us prepare our hearts to receive the Word today and prepare ourselves to produce fruits a hundredfold.

Lord, prepare my heart and soul, let them be like arable land ready to receive your word and bear the fruits of the Spirit.
