Living Stone with Christ

We are by divine providence, professionally and beautifully crafted into one body with Christ. In union with Christ, our temple will rise in glory. By God's grace at work in us, thanks for the Sacraments of Initiation, we are living stones building up the body of Christ in the world. Christ is our source of supernatural existence and inspiration. In him, God the Father made us his "chosen race, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation, a people set apart to sing God's praises (1Pet.2:9)."

Towards this end, we must all abandon our individualistic ideals and materialistic goals. We must commit ourselves to love and serve only one God - the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ by living up to our Baptismal Promise. As living stones in the Body of Christ, God calls us to edify and fortify one another just as Christ did when he was on earth (Jn.13:34-35; 15:12). The early Christian community in Acts 2:42-47, and the fraternal concerns for the widows mentioned in 1 Peter 2:4-9 are examples of living stones God wants us to be on earth. Christians, disciples of Christ, do not live and die for themselves, but the Lord. They live and die in imitation of their Master (Rom.14:7-9).

If we live for the Lord and die in him, there will be no need for us to fear the consequences of death and the judgment of God. The parable of the Last Judgment guarantees that the well-deserving have a place secured for them in heaven since the foundation of the world (Matt.25:36-41). Jesus, once again, confirms that our good deeds will precede those who imitate him by fulfilling our part as living stones in his Mystical Body on earth. We should fear neither trials, tribulation nor death since eternal life is our ultimate reward.

Lord, I place my trust in you. I will not be disappointed.
