We are Potential Angels

We are Potential Angels

Rising above the trivialities of life and the world call for deep faith, hope, absolute trust in God and an inward sense of detachment. Fanning into a flame the gift we received in the Sacraments of Initiation requires us to be like the wise virgins (Matt.25:1-13). We must always rely on the resources of the wisdom of God, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit to make wisest choices in anticipation of our final resurrection.

God created humankind in the image of himself, for himself and eternity (Eph.2:10). Discipleship calls for a radical sense of detachment from parents, spouses, children, and all earthly possessions that we may give free rein to achieve the will of God on earth and to participate fully in the resurrection (Lk.14:26).

Faith and hope, guide us to look beyond the things of the flesh that we may share in the fullness of Christ's divinity. God wants us to be his angels in heaven. That is our destination. Therefore, we must consider all things on earth as transient. Thus, even while we enjoy them, we must keep fanning the flame of Spirit we received in Baptism, Confirmation and the Holy Eucharist. Do not let the graces of these sacraments elude us. Otherwise, we will grow timid and weak, we will lose sight of the goal of life in the world as children of God, and the vision of the resurrection will shun us. Let us learn to love everything with the guidance of the Holy Spirit that in the end, we can detach unconditionally from the things of the flesh to live like angels in heaven.

Lord, lead me. I will follow you completely.
