Living in the Immaculate Heart of Mary

The Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, teaches us how to remain faithful to the sacred covenant God ratified for us in her Son. Her undivided attention, love, humility, obedience and singular devotion to the Father and her Son are the same virtues God calls us to in our Baptismal promise.

The Lord wants us to embody the uncorrupted fidelity and holiness of his mother, Mary. If we do, such virtues will keep us focused and uncontaminated by the world and make us sufficiently qualified to become the mother of our Lord as well (Matt.12:50).

When Mary made her fiat to God, she simultaneously resolved to protect the purity of her heart. She chose to see the face of God who promised: "Blessed are the pure in heart they shall see God (Matt.5:8)." By her candid admission, she confirmed, “From this day onward all generations will call me blessed. For he who is mighty has done great things for me (Lk.1:48-49)." Yes! God always rewards the righteous (Prov.11:20-22). From the moment of the Annunciation Mary publicly declared, she was not going to compromise the currency of salvation for the wages of the devil.

In Matthew 6:24-34, Jesus cautions us to emulate his Holy Mother. Make the Lord God be our first and only love. Be faithful unto death. At the appointed time, we shall see the face of God and live.

Mary, Immaculate Mother of grace, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
