Sharing the Yoke and Burden with Christ

THURSDAY: Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Sharing the Yoke and Burden with Christ

If we only knew the blessings, freedom and liberation salvation brings into our lives, we would draw closer to the Lord every second of the day. God longs to transubstantiate us into copies of himself while we are still living in the flesh. He plans to take away from us all forms of harassment plaguing us, all our sorrows, satisfy our hunger, quench our thirst and turn our failures into success -if only we embody his virtues, values and courage (2Chr.7:14; Matt.11:28-30).

All the Lord asks of us is to live in the Spirit - to that St. Paul adds those who embrace this invitation to shoulder Christ's yoke Christ and learn from him there is no condemnation - the law of his Spirit of life has already set us free from the law of sin and death (Rom.1:8-2). What are that proverbial yoke and burden Christ wants us to share with him? First, we must live only to do the will of the Father (Jn.6:38). Second, the will of the Father must be our food (Jn.4:34); thirdly, we must be willing to share in his redemptive sufferings to redeem our brothers and sisters form of the law of sin and death (Matt.16:24) - with the same zeal and love, Christ redeemed us (Jn.13:34-35; 2Cor.1:3-7).

The poor and the indigent, I can envisage will be the victims of the new world order at hand. I can see the minority groups eliminated. The Church, the Mystical Body of Christ, is already gradually politically, socially and economically transformed and disempowered to be part of new world order. It appears as if she now incapable of embracing the yoke and sharing the burden of Christ genuinely. The sheep are scattered.

Now, it is much easier to lure the stray sheep into the traps of the enemy. What has gone wrong? The enemies of the faith are within. Too many of our church leaders are members of the secret societies that are the architects of this proposed new historical, social, political and economic order. How can they help stall it or reverse it? God will do it for us. He will gather his stray sheep and shepherd his flock (Ezek.34:16-17).

O God, I trust in you. Be our saving help. Come to our rescue and save us.
