God Revealing His Son

THE TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD, Feast

Dan.7:9-10,13-14/2Pet.1:16-19/Matt.17:1-9

God Revealing His Son

Today God reveals his radiant glory to his chosen witnesses to safeguard their faith. He fills them with great splendour and strengthens their faith in anticipation of the scandal of the Cross. He is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent, yet humble in his endeavours to protect the faith his chosen ones in times of scandals.

Throughout the history of salvation, God kept sending us warning signs through, dreams and omens. He speaks boldly to us in Sacred Scripture and with perfect clarity, he spoke to us in his Son Jesus Christ (Heb.1:1-4). The Transfiguration of the Lord is a dynamic expression of the fullness of God's revelation of the identity of his Christ, his messianic mission to the world - even if his death would seem like a defeat and his disciples would scatter. The same applies to the Prophet Daniel. God kept him informed about the future and kept his faith steadfast.

God the Father did not leave the Prophet Daniel hamstrung in anticipation of the destruction of the four kingdoms and the four beasts. In dreams and visions, God prepared him for the pending calamity to protect his faith and strengthen his resolve to endure his trials and suffering for his namesake (Dan.7:1-8:1-27).

The Transfiguration of the Lord was no different. While Peter did confess that Jesus was indeed the Son of the living God (Matt.16:13-20) still, he never anticipated a tragic death for the Son of God (Matt.16:23). Peter and the rest of the Disciples, nevertheless, needed confirmation from God himself that even when doing good evil men and women can horrendously expedite your death to preserve their kingdom of darkness.

Therefore, our participation in the Transfiguration of the Lord must be a sign of our belief that Jesus Christ is the Beloved Son of the Father. Let us listen to him.

O God open my eyes and ears that I may see, hear and understand the wonders of the Lord and imitate him in all of his actions.
