The Gift of Oratory and the Holy Spirit

Oratory is an extraordinary talent, but the potential of the Holy Spirit and the wisdom of God at work in men and women transforming belittling human conditions and changing the world with Christ is of greater importance than rhetoric.

Guided by the Holy Spirit, God and Christ Jesus are at work, and they speak in and through us calling the world to conversion, deliverance and healing from all broken human conditions. St. Paul, by his admission, acknowledged the outpouring of the Holy Spirit is not only for eloquence but that God will change us into prophets of paschal hope and joy for others.

Jesus' declaration that he received the Holy Spirit to bring holistic healing and transformation to sufferers, once again must remind us of our reception of the Holy Spirit and initiation into Christ. It must also challenge us to question our purpose and mission as Christians in the world gone callous in its thinking and behaviour towards one another. Did the Holy Spirit take leave of us? I wonder!

Send forth your Spirit, O Lord, and renew in us the fire of your love.
